Blue Moon founder joins CBD packaging company as strategic advisor
Keith Villa, one of only a handful of people in the world to hold a Ph.D. in brewing science from the University of Brussels, started Blue Moon Brewing Company in 1995 as a unit of Coors Brewing Company, which became MillerCoors. In 2018, Villa retired from MillerCoors and co-founded CERIA Brewing Company with his wife, a cannabis-infused, de-alcoholized craft beer company.
Their idea was to create cannabis beer with a similar onset time to alcohol. The brewery will debut Grainwave Belgian-Style White Ale with 5mg of THC in mid-December, followed by two additional styles and strengths in 2019, an American Light Lager (2.5mg THC) and an IPA (10mg THC).
But that’s not all Villa has been up to. In addition to his role as co-founder of CERIA Brewing Company, he will serve as a strategic advisor to a cannabis co-packing and bottling company called Growpacker.
Growpacker offers local and international brands key services, such as formulation, manufacturing, co-packing and distribution for THC and CBD-infused products.
“We are very excited to have Keith [Villa] join the team as a strategic advisor,” said Growpacker CEO Stephen Boyd. “The addition of Keith is instrumental to our company, as we believe that his experience will play a key role in developing the de-alcoholized THC-infused beverage segment, which is expected to become one of the fastest growing segments in the industry.”
Growpacker has been constructing its flagship cannabis manufacturing facility in Desert Hot Springs, California. The facility is expected to house a versatile array of processing and packaging lines that can address a multitude of product categories, including beverages (carbonated or noncarbonated teas, coffees, kombuchas, waters, beers, wines, spirits, etc.), edibles (cookies, brownies, gummies, hard candies, caramels, lollipops, chocolate bars, enrobed chocolates, etc.), flower products (weighted quarters, eighths, pre-rolls, etc.) and other one-off type products.
The addition of Villa as a strategic advisor lends additional business credibility to the space.
